Enterprise System Integration: Fix the Handoffs First

Most integration value sits in the handoffs between systems, not inside any one of them. How to find and fix the ones costing you most.

Platform vendors automate work inside their own product well. The expensive, error-prone work is in the gaps: data exported from one system and re-typed into another.

Find the costly handoffs

  • Where does the same record get typed twice?
  • Which exports run on a schedule someone has to remember?
  • Which scripts does only one person understand?
  • Which sync failures do users discover before IT does?

Fix them in the right order

Rank each handoff by hours lost and error impact, then fix the top one end to end: a connector with retries, an alert when it fails, a log of what moved, and a named owner. One reliable integration builds more confidence than five partial ones.

Serverless fits this work

Integrations are event-driven and bursty. Serverless functions and queues scale with the work, cost little when idle, and keep each connector small enough to understand and replace.
